About the center
CPAI is a research collective that aims to build a two-way bridge between AI and philosophy. Why? Because AI needs philosophy, and because AI is a useful tool for philosophy of mind. To the extent, philosophers want to contribute to AI literature, it is important that we establish a common vocabulary for transdisciplinary collaborations. CPAI consists of a mix of philosophers, computer scientists, linguists, physicists, neuroscientists, artists, and more.
At CPAI, we ask:
- What can AI learn from philosophy?
- What can philosophy learn from AI?
Examples of what AI can learn from philosophy include how best to define fairness, what constitutes an explanation, what it means for models to represent phenomena, etc. Examples of what philosophy can learn from AI include how representation comes about in complex adaptive systems, how memorization and learning form a continuum, how goal-directedness emerges, etc.
Center structure and organisation
CPAI is a collective, encouraging collaboration across the board. We collaborate with a broad selection of international universities and industry labs, as well as with COASTAL and the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence (Dpt. of Computer Science), SODAS and CAISA (Dpt. of Political Science), and Center for Tracking and Society (Dpt. of Communication).
